| From
Western Approach in the jungle, one can catch a glimpse of the distant
Mystic Mountains, home to the brotherhood of the Mystic Mages since
the beginning of documented history. Mages first became known to the
current inhabitants of the Island of Phantasus during the Age of Oracles,
throughout which time they acted as seers and interpreters to help
guide the Oracles and prepare the way for a time when we would each
have control over our dreams. There is evidence that the Mages have
journeyed down from the mountain on several earlier occasions, but
not much is yet known about these past visits.
The Mages have always concerned themselves with the history of our
island, and believe the legends, writings, and prophecies of the past
can provide us with invaluable guidance and help to build the stepping-stones
we will need as we dream the future. Several of the Mages are involved
in researching and documenting the history of the island with the
hope of eventually being able to share and discuss their findings
with the current inhabitants, but each Mage has his own personality,
character, interests, and focus. Each offers something different to
those who will listen.
The first of the current group of Mages arrived in the jungle at the
request of Brother Echo, to share their thoughts and observations,
recount historic tales and offer their visions of the future. When
the Mages took on the task of using their mystical magic to engrave
and personalize Dreamscape items, and as the role of Mages expanded
in the jungle, more brothers ventured forth from the mountain, both
to provide assistance as needed and to enhance their own studies.
The Mages can be found in any of the jungle areas and very rarely
venture out into the developed locales of the city. Take the time
to venture forth into the jungle and seek out the Mages. They are
always willing to stop and talk, as well as listen to the thoughts,
concerns and ideas of their fellow avatars.
Brother Echo has since moved on from our island, but the Mages have
stayed with us to share their stories, their engraving and their ideas
of the Dream. It is our dream that those who seek information regarding
the focus of the Mages and issues relating to the avatars as whole
in this new age, may find sustenance within these pages.
There following stories
are part of the Mages' oldest history in the Jungle.
