When Spring Cleaning is Finished...

One of Prophetess Mnemosyne's most troublesome times seems to be the Spring. She follows all the motherly protocols and insists on her daughters following them as well. Spring brings with it not only the wonderful opportunities to begin outdoor chores like planting, but the dreaded indoor chore of Spring Cleaning.

The Muses adhere to her schedule as best they can but the grumbling can sometimes be heard well outside the Muse Gates.

This year Mother decided she would not spend any extra effort pushing them along to get all of the rooms in the Muse Quarters cleaned up. She told them that when all the cleaning was done there would be a surprise for each daughter. Little did the daughters know that they would only find their surprise if the Spring Cleaning was done correctly. Each daughter was then instructed to bring the surprise to Mother so she would know the cleaning was done.

Each Muse was assigned an area in the Muse Quarters to attack with their brooms, rags, mops, etc. and to clean until every last speck of dust and dirt was gone. The Muses grumbled but gathered up their skirts and began the long chore of Spring Cleaning.

Erato, being very eager to finish her chores and get back to reading romantic poetry, started right away. She had been given the Library to clean and she dusted each book with love and care. As she got to the last bookshelf, behind the very last book she found her surprise. She ran to Mother to show her. Mother smiled and praised her. Then Mother did an odd thing! She took the surprise away and told Erato when all the surprises were gathered each Muse would get theirs back.

Melpomene was given the task of cleaning backstage where all the props for Muse plays are kept. Being a very organizationally motivated Muse she attacked it with vigor. When she reached the box on the highest shelf containing all the the masks for the plays, she found her surprise. Mother was very pleased when Melpy gave it to her and stored it away with Erato's.

Calliope, the eldest and most distinguished of the Muses, took on the task of the writing room with a serious diligence. Each of the 10 desks in the room had to be sorted through making sure there was fresh paper and working pens. She found her surprise in the very bottom of a drawer in the very last desk. Mother thanked her for all her hard work and put this surprise away with the others.

Clio is the Muse of History so she was given the Museum to get spick and span. All of the exhibits needed to be not only cleaned but cataloged. She carefully examined each one and noted it in book. As she reached the end of the room, behind a large plant from the Month of Romance she found her surprise. Mother told her what a lovely job she did then hid her surprise away with the rest.

Polyhymnia, being the youngest, was given the chore of cleaning the Dining Room where all the Muses gathered for meals. Each plate, cup, saucer and eating utensil had to be scrubbed and polished to a high shine. Poli discovered her surprise while reaching into the very back of the china cabinet where the "good china" was stored. Mother knew she had done an excellent job when she had to shade her eyes because of the gleaming table settings. Poli handed over her surprise to Mother and danced away happily to play with her cats.

Urania ran off to clean the telescopes in the Observatory before Mother could even assign it to her. She thought she didn't have much to clean as she cared for the telescopes daily. Unfortunately when she looked around she realized there were star charts and maps everywhere. She gathered them up to clean and organize. When she looked behind the storage cabinet, she found her surprise.. Mother was thrilled to know that Urania had done a complete job and quietly took her surprise to put with the others.

Euterpe was given the Music Room to get in order. She wrongly assumed that it could not be too difficult as there should have been only a few music sheets and instruments. Alas there were instruments and music sheets everywhere! It seemed things had not been stored away as they should when not in use. While packing away the bass drum, she found her surprise. She gave her surprise to Mother and then ran off to practice some of the music she found that she thought had been lost.

Terpsichore had to clean the Dance Rehearsal Room. She skipped expecting a wide open room with only a floor to mop. Instead she found ballet slippers, tap shoes, and high heeled dancing shoes strewn about. Each sister had a locker in the room to keep their things in but they were always in such a hurry things did not get put away. Terpsichore sized each shoe to figure out which sister it belonged to and put them in the lockers. As she put the very last shoe away she found her surprise. Mother knew the Dance Rehearsal Room was as clean as could be and thanked Terpsichore for all her work. Then she took her surprise and hid it away.

Thalia was having a hard time finding the humor in the room she was given. She had to clean the kitchen. She considered planting rubber chickens in the room rather than cleaning out the icebox. She thought of replacing the water pitchers with dribble glasses. She even contemplated emptying the juice bottles and refilling them with Mage Beer. Knowing that none of these things would help her finish her task she buckled down and cleaned the kitchen. When she was putting away the very last cooking pot she found her surprise.

Before she went to see Mother she gathered all her sisters together. They would find out what happened to their surprises all at once.

Mother was delighted to see her daughters had finished all the spring cleaning just in time for Summer. Summer was a time to have fun, relax and enjoy the sunshine. Each Muse now had their own Beach Ball to play in the water and sand with.

The Muses were so excited that Summer had come and they could play with their Beach Balls, that they decided why not let everyone have a Muse Beach Ball to play with. With that in mind they decided that on the first weekend of the Summer they would share their Beach Balls with all of Kymer.

Look for the Muses on the Beach, Underwater Locales , Outdoor Surfside Locales, Meditation Park Locales (excluding Pan Mountain but including the Path to SK), or in the Muse Gardens. When you find a Muse you must tag her. The first two people to tag a Muse will get a gift. Each Muse will be carrying a few Beach Balls to help you fill your collections faster.
