If
we all took just a little bit of time every day
to focus on life, and see things in a better way..
Put someone else's shoes on our feet,
and took a walk down their life's street..
Could we love a little more, and be angry any less?
On our first reaction, would we stop and second guess?
If we could all go out of our way just enough
to make someone else's day not so tough..
A little bit of love can go a long long way..
Bring us just a bit closer to the long awaited day,
when the world can boast of war no more,
and finally claim the Peace we've all been hoping for.

There
were no youth entries so there was only one winning poem.
The winner will be invited to read her poem at the start of
each of the 3 Peace Day
Poetry Sessions. Should she not be able to attend the Poetry
Sessions, the Muses will read the winning poem.
There
will be three poetry reading sessions to be held in the
Poetry Reading locale in the Peace Locales area on:
Friday September 19th 2 to 4 pm,
Saturday September 20th 10 am to Noon
Sunday September 21st 1 to 3 pm

A
Little Poem of Peace
by Set
The world of many different colours,
Into the rich tapestry we weaved;
That reaches into the lives of others,
With love within our hearts conceived.
Yet greed, lust, pride and envy within,
Of wrath of man with flames so bright;
Would only lead our lives to ruin,
And man lose sight of wrong and right.
One world, one chance, and but one lifetime,
We come together in love and peace;
With charity, patience and temperance sublime,
From the clutches of tyranny, release.
So can we put our differences aside?
Of the many cultures and faiths, we exceed;
Together so strong, with arms open wide,
In harmony embraced, humanity will succeed.

What does it mean? This nice word "peace"
I just don't know what to say
a noble notion, a pleasant thought
a great idea for a special day
But yet the world is at such unease!
What the hell do we know about peace?
Such is the human way.

Unexpected
Snow

Sometimes as i stand on a winter covered path
And gaze at the road winding off into the wood.
The trees press close around me,
Each one vying for my attention,
Pressing cold hard fingers through the chill
Piercing my skin with little care for the blood they draw.
As i stand there, my feet wet,
Burning with fire and with ice
And the wood silent.
i glance up, smiling
At the tiny crystal drops of a sudden snowfall.
They glimmer in the sun and the air is warmer.
They brush my cheeks,
these messengers of peace
As i turn slowly, slowly
my boots crunching, arms out stretched.
The trees draw back,
Whispering amongst themselves.
Old women, pulling shawls tighter
To keep out the Invader
That disturbs their play.
The Snow has a song
And It is singing
Words only i can hear.
And i dance, the Snow dancing with me
In the stillness of the wood.
As the trees watch on. |

For war, dream of the day
When peace at last will reign
And joyful hope returns again.
Safety for all held dear
Freedom from want and fear
Calm within across the seas
Fills the globe with joy and ease.
Peace inside your home and heart
No longer a need to live apart
Join hearts and hands around the world
Raise freedom's flag unfurled.

Reigns

Religion, power, and greed start wars,
Based on assumptions never proved.
Causing pain on all earth's shores,
Violence we say should be removed.
Thinking instead of assuming,
Let us all hold hands,
While friendships are blooming,
And peace reigns over all lands.

What can we Learn from our actions in the Past?
Our World is turning into one Big Fight Fast,
Really everyone aren't we better than that?
