Once Upon a Time on Olympus

Greetings All
and Thank You for joining us!
Today, the Muses of Kymer
are pleased to present
for your enjoyment
a play in two Acts entitled
"Once Upon a Time on Olympus".
~*~
Out of consideration for your fellow spectators
and the performers
we ask that you
kindly
turn off your mobile phones,
refrain from using flash photography,
resist whispering to the performers
and
remain in your cloud seats
until the conclusion of the performance.
~*~
We who are about to perform salute you!
The show will begin shortly.

'Twas dusk on Olympus
The Muse birds were peeping
The Muses were musing
The sheep were a-sheeping
Narcissus was sent
to the Mountain to study,
but spent all his time
with his favorite buddy.

Narcissus:
I feel pretty
Oh so pretty
I'm so pretty and witty and vain
I'm so pretty
That I never need to use my brain

Calliope:
<SIGH!>
We inspired Homer's Odyssey
And Homer Simpson, too
From Wittgenstein and Cicero
To A.E. Milne's Pooh.

Erato:
Descartes, Doyle, Seuss and Poe,
Keen Green Eggs and Ham.
Nevermore! The Game's Afoot!
“I think, therefore I am.”

Thalia:
Copernicus and Sigmund Freud
And star-struck Galileo,
Disney's Mouse, Green-Gabled house
And Belafonte's 'Day-O'.

Calliope:
Spielberg's shark and Shakespeare's Lark,
Astaire and Kelly's hoofing,
Elvis Presley's Jail House Rock,
The Weavers' warp and woofing.

Erato:
Bach and Handel, Verdi too,
The Beatles' “Yeah Yeah Yeah”

Mother:
Another bad report card then?

Thalia:
Blaah!

Erato:
Blaah! Blaah!

Calliope:
Blaah!

Ewegene:
BAAHH!

Mother:
Come my daughters, time for tea!
And then it's time for sleep.

Thalia:
I'll be right there, just want to say
Goodnight to Bloop and Bleep.

Maus Vision:
Don't know much about historee
Don't know much philosophee
Never sang beneath the stars above
Played a tune about the loss of love
But I do know if I could dance
Write a verse or two about romance
Then a happier Maus I would be.

Thalia:
Mother!
Sisters!
Hurry back!
You won't believe your eyes!!

The Muses flocked outside once more
And saw to their surprise:

Maus Vision:
Don't know much about astronomee
Don't know any epic poetree
Don't know to play a double flute
Can't begin to strum a minstrel's lute
But I have heard the play's the thing
And I know if I could act and sing
What a satisfied Maus I would be.

Calliope:
Sisters, I shall read the cards ...
They say he lives in “Kymer”.

Erato:
But we don't need the cards to see
He's quite the little rhymer!

Mother:
I wonder if we closed our eyes
And concentrated hard
If we could bring him here to show
The way to his back yard?

The Muses closed their eyes as one
And focused on the Maus
And just like that,

the Little One
appeared inside their house.

Wasser B. Maus:
OOOOOOOO
No-one believed Chicken Little
Turkey Lurkey was put on Ignore
Henny Penny's clucks all went unheeded
Ducky Daddles dismissed as a bore.

But somehow I knew
I just KNEW it
If I dreamed well, in just the right way
The Muse Mams would pick up the message:
Kymerians need you TODAY.

Grab a-hold of my tail and I'll take you
There's no need for worry or fright
If we hurry we'll be there by morning
It's past the fourth star to the right.

Mother:
Well now we know the Who and What
And Where, and even Why.
Daughters, come! No time to lose!
To Kymer we must hie.

Narcissus:
But I
can't
help
Falling in love
with
You

Mother:
Oh put a sock, put a sock in it. Do!!

On that magical night
In the year MMI
Flew the Muses and Maus
Past that star in the sky.

To the Island of Kymer
In Io's fair Sea,
With their birds and their crystals,
Their books and their tea.

The Theatre's home
To their Seasonal Teas,
And dramas and games
In the rose-scented breeze.
~*~
Hark! Here they come!!
Without further ado,
Here endeth Act I
And beginneth Act II

Wasser B. Maus:
Wherever did the time go
Since the Muses came to play?
Though six full years have come and gone
It seems like yesterday.

Erato:
It's a Picnic!
In the Parlour!
Potpourri-hued potion!

Calliope:
And pinning down a parson's Cat
Is Poetry in motion.

Thalia:
Through Crystal Quests
And History Quests
And story contests too

Erato:
We love to entertain and teach
And we've learned much from you!

Mother:
Our Weekly Prophet chronicles
The days and months and years
Of happiness you've given us
So Thank You all, my Dears!
