The Night Skies

January 20, 2009

Our topic today was the night skies. The stars are always above us yet we sometimes go weeks and months without even glancing at their beauty.

Locksley Hall
by Alfred Lord Tennyson
recited by Lady Songbird SK elf

Many a night I saw the
Pleiades, rising thro' the
mellow shade,
Glitter like a swarm of fire-flies
tangled in a silver braid.

Night Sky
recited by Timo

I looked at the night sky and what did I see,
the stars were just hanging there looking at me.
I took a deep breath and shut my eyes,
stretched out my arms and to my surprise
floated up on a sea of fresh air
and sang to the moon while I was there
A Lullaby so gentle and deep,
I watched the moon as he fell asleep.
The sun woke up I saw him rise.
'It's time to wake.' the cockerel cries.
And so I drifted back to earth upon an azure stream
To find that I was in my bed and it was just a dream.

A Million Miles
by Shadowess

The moon shines bright, white & clear
there are no clouds between there & here
It looks so crisp its crystal clear
but there are millions of miles between there & here.
Like a million diamonds between there & here
They twinkle so brightly, so silver & shiny
but there are millions of miles between there & here.

Someday I would like to stand on the moon,
look down through a quarter of a
million miles of space and
say, "There certainly is a
beautiful earth out tonight."

Night Light
by Muse Urania

Starry Night,
Moon and stars,
shining bright.

Midnight sun,
Moonlight,
whitely illuminating.

Morning Star,
light swiftly,
traveling far.

Lighting my night,
in beauty bright,
How celestially beautiful you are.

Group Poem

The night skies are a wondrous sight...
the stars are all shining bright,
Hoping for a warm clear night.

There is also a moon that shines at night...
as we relax with a cup of hot tea and watch the falling stars
Hoping to catch a glimpse of a shooting star light up the sky.

Looking at the sky makes me tired...
I don't know why... maybe because,
The sun and moon are rarely up at the same time

Our topic for this coming Tuesday shall be World Leaders. Please join us at 11:00am in Theatre View for Poetry Corner.
