Leprechauns

March 9, 2010

We did have an excellent time at Poetry Corner today. As we shared poetry about Leprechauns, we also discussed Ireland and it's people and literature. Tiakun, although unable to stay, left a token gift for each avie who shared a poem. It was very generous of him.

Leprechauns
by sherri aka luvsparks

what tiny tender creatures...fury cute and small...
you rarely see a tall one....if you do he will always fall....
they love to dance and play and hide....
they love to tease and harass...
they love to tease and rattle you...
and hide in tall tall grass....
they hide a very special special prize...
that everyone wants to behold...
it is very precious to the leprechauns...
it is their POT O' GOLD...
this is a very treasured thing...
they keep it very safe...
they try to promise it is ours...
only for a chase...but as we well know...
they are not dumb....they are truly cons....
just when you think you have that gold....
they disappear...the little, sneaky ...leprechauns

St Patrick
by Muse Urania

AAhhh, me darlin's gather near,
and I'll tell you a story, loud and clear...
Of a British lad who changed us all,
By sharing the Holy Father's call.

Taken in slavery as a youth,
He trod our hills and vales...
escaped and captured yet again...
he was freed, by the Father's Hand.

By this time he figured he must
study and share his faith, forsooth.
In a Monastery in France , did he learn...
to scatter the heathen, at every turn.

Again he traveled, to our fair land...
and won the respect of the King.
Speaking of the Holy Trinity...
He set our peoples free.

And indeed did drive the heathen snake...
From our hearts by his piety.

Happy St. Patrick Day
by GINRO

Peeps all over celebrate in many ways
Marching bands on the roads
Color of green, that's the dress codes
Green beer to go around,
Drink to Joy, as happy as crown.

But Let us take a moment to see
Who was that, that brought us such to glee
Patrick didn't press his view
He respected what the natives knew
With clover leaves and how it stands
He taught us to relate one another
Each of us are just like a strand
To create the beautiful quilt worn by brother

He used the Sun that natives believed
He didn't force the way of the Cross
Rather, with respect he merged the two
Thus comes celtic cross,
The new answer that was weaved

The servants is the one,
That before anything, listens
Before being a talker, the preacher, or the teacher,
He became respecter.
Opening his own heart, not dismissing what natives carried
Perhaps, through his life style,
Is the reason we smile,
Happy St. Patrick Day!

See the leprechaun
dancing on the ground
Teasing all the town's people
That his gold will never be found.

Group Poem (March 2008)
by Everyone Present
(from the archives)

Beneath the waves of lush green a shamrock lay...
sprouting through the late winter frost.
The sun comes to warm it and stay...
Greeting little leprechauns at play,
they are always hiding so what can I say?
With a green velvet hat, and a shamrock buttionier...
he doff's his hat with a loud cheer!
The Irish, they whistle the Irish songs,
they sing and dance all night long.
Amongst four leaf clovers all about
raising their mugs,"Bring on the Beer!" they shout!

Our topic for this coming Tuesday shall be "Wee Folk", being of course, fairies, elves, leprechauns and the like. Be sure to join us at 11:00am wat in Theatre View.
