Poetry in Green

March 14, 2006

As always Poetry Corner was an enjoyable experience. I wore a green top hat and scarf in honor of the chosen topic. It seemed to confuse people and I even had to take the hat off for a moment to prove it was me. As there has already been a multitude of poetry written concerning St. Patrick's Day, we were decidedly lacking in original works.

Joining me was Lady DustyRose of Narnia, DustyBrat of Narnia, Kevin in Pink, MB, Tuppence, and Trlaina.

Kevin in Pink and MB both recited in a very lovely manner, and Trelaina shared some Irish blessings and curses.

DustyBrat produced our first original poem of the session.

Roses are red
Violates are blue
Erin with green
Blooms anew!

St Patrick
by Muse Urania

AAhhh, me darlin's gather near,
and I'll tell you a story, loud and clear...
Of a British lad who changed us all,
By sharing the Holy Father's call.

Taken in slavery as a youth,
He trod our hills and vales...
escaped and captured yet again...
he was freed, by the Father's Hand.

By this time he figured he must,
study and share his faith, forsooth.
In a Monastery in France , did he learn...
to scatter the heathen, at every turn.

Again he traveled, to our fair land...
and won the respect of the King.
Speaking of the Holy Trinity...
He set our peoples free.

And indeed did drive the heathen snake...
From our hearts by his piety.

His fave color is green
but he is rarely seen
Hiding behind a bush
or by the pot at the foot of the rainbow
is a wee leprechaun so tiny and green.

Sister Melpomene will be presenting Poetry Corner next week.  Spring, spring flowers and yellow were chosen as the topic for that meeting. Please be sure to join her this coming Tuesday morning, 11amwat in the Theatre View.
