A Bit More St. Patrick's Day

March 17, 2009

Poetry Corner celebrated St. Patrick's Day today. We shared poetry, and customs concerning Ireland and St .Patrick.

St Patrick
by Muse Urania

AAhhh, me darlin's gather near,
and I'll tell you a story, loud and clear...
Of a British lad who changed us all,
By sharing the Holy Father's call.
Taken in slavery as a youth,
He trod our hills and vales...
escaped and captured yet again...
he was freed, by the Father's Hand.
By this time he figured he must study and share his faith, forsooth.
In a Monastery in France , did he learn...
to scatter the heathen, at every turn.
Again he traveled, to our fair land...
and won the respect of the King.
Speaking of the Holy Trinity...
He set our peoples free.
And indeed did drive the heathen snake...
From our hearts by his piety.

Leprechaun
by Joisey Boi

See the leprechaun
dancing on the ground
Teasing all the town's people
That his gold will never be found.

Group Poem (March 2008)
by Everyone Present

Beneath the waves of lush green a shamrock lay...
sprouting through the late winter frost.
The sun comes to warm it and stay...
Greeting little leprechauns at play,
they are always hiding so what can I say?
With a green velvet hat, and a shamrock buttionier...
he doff's his hat with a loud cheer!
The Irish, they whistle the Irish songs,
they sing and dance all night long.
Amongst four leaf clovers all about
raising their mugs,"Bring on the Beer!" they shout!

Sister Melpomene presented an idea that does sound like fun. That we could either choose a poem or write one as a group to act out on the stage. Please consider what type of poem would be appropriate and bring your ideas this coming Tuesday at 11:00 to Theatre View.
