Reflections on Easter Sunday

April 7, 2009

Today was a lovely hour. We shared poems and memories of Easter Sundays past and hopes for future springs. Easter egg hunts, church potlucks, sun glowing through lovely stained glass windows, thoughts of parades, spring finery and of course.. chocolate.

Ghost of a Rose
by Sunryze

An emptiness filled me today,
a sadness incomplete,
a loss I could not locate,
t'was the ghost of defeat.

The sadness glazed my leaves
as they dropped and fell from me
tears stained my petals
as they woke to reality.

My stems were limp with longing
my roots lost their bonds
my scent no longer carried
upon the faerie wand.^

My colors all have faded
my softness turned to shell
upon the sunny meadows
I shall no longer dwell.

A phantom scent may rise
as a warm wind blows
I am but a shimmer
this Ghost of a Rose.

Happy Easter Day

by Wasser B. Maus

Roses long stemmed and red,
Easter skies all clear and sunny,
So jump right out of that cozy bed,
and find yourself a CHOCOLATE bunny!

Meeting the Easter Bunny
author unknown
recited by Timo

On Easter morn at early dawn
before the cocks were crowing
I met a bob-tail bunnykin
and asked where he was going

"Tis in the house and out the house
a-tipsy, tipsy-toeing,
Tis round the house and 'bout the house
a-lightly I am going."

But what is that of every hue
you carry in your basket?"
"Tis eggs of gold and eggs of blue;
I wonder that you ask it.

"Tis chocolate eggs and bonbon eggs
and eggs of red and gray
For every child in every house
on bonny Easter day."

He perked his ears and winked his eye
and twitched his little nose
He shook his tail -- what tail he had
and stood up on his toes

I must be gone before the sun
the east is growing gray
Tis almost time for bells to chime
So he hippety-hopped away.

Easter Sunday
by DUSTY

Fields of grass green and sunny
Chiffon dresses with flowers 'n' frills
Baskets stuffed with eggs and bunnies
Lil' ones...,
faces filled with chocolate smiles
Church windows lit with sacred lights
Mother nature gives us spring again.

Group Poem

Easter is the best day of the year...
warm breezes caress the buds awake,
smells so sweet come oh so near.

Sounds of church bells ring out so clear...
New life, new dreams, second chances are here,
with new life and hope for elf kind and mother nature alike.

clouds float by above and sunshine beams on all our dreams...
can't wait to see what the Easter bunny will hide when I was still in my bed,
new love, new days wait for all.

This coming Tuesday our topic shall be "the children of Spring" - baby animals, birds, humans and toons. Please join us at Theatre View this coming Tuesday at 11:00am wat for Poetry Corner.
