Joining Muse Erato and Prophetess Mnemosyne this week at poetry were, Acolyte Painter LapinFou, Tiger Eyes, Journalist, SweetÐreams, DustyRose of Narnia, Glory, DustyBrat, LindyLou, Razzleberry, and ÀngelÐust. This week's topic was Spring Picnics. We started with the group poem.

Picnics are a great escape
On a warm summer day
Butterflies play
Ants stay away
Food to cook and games to play
It's a wonder we don't do this everyday!
Picnics are lots of fun
And enjoy the warmth of the sun
The cool breeze blowing,
Your brow, but close your eyes and feel
The contrast of the warmth and cool
Like dappled shadows flitting across the ground

Sitting in the grass
Peeking in the basket to see
What the cook packed for me
Yummy chicken n iced tea
Hamburgers and hot dogs for all the world to see
Makes me hungry thinking of it all
Cookies and cakes and muffins too
Blueberry muffins, with lots of blueberries, all of them oh ever so blue
So very much to eat!, which to choose
A thermos of ice tea will set well with me
Then it will be time for a snooze
How great to be in such relaxed communication with nature.

Following the group poem, we had a few original works.

Picnic Haiku
by DustyRose of Narnia

Wear a big brim hat
Pack a wicker basket full
Grab friends 'Off we go!'

Springtime meadow blooms
Grass so sweet and carpeting
Too full I'm getting!

Comfortable friends
Warm sunny breezes blowing
Sleepy I'm growing.

A picnic is fun
The ants and flies they do come
Everyone's hoppy
