Wintry Poetry

January 11, 2005

Among those who joined Prophetess Mnemosyne and Muse Melpomene at Poetry were Glory, Charity, Trelaina, Tiger Eyes and Le@p Frog. After a few poems recited by Melpomene and Mnemosyne, Glory offered the following original poem.

New Year

A new year is beginning,
all fresh and clean.
A time for new beginnings,
new horizons to glean.

What shall be accomplished,
What awaits us?
What changes ( good and bad)
shall manifest?
Tis a great adventure,
to be living at this time.
A gift we all should treasure,
savor line by line.

Next everyone joined in on the following group poem about Winter.

Snow, slush, mush, ice and cold...Tis winter,
Ice Queen is in her glory.
The air is cold and lonely is my printer.
The snowbirds sing a lonely song.
As I wander along the snow covered paths
I think of warmer days,
but the woods are lovely.
The trees whisper with snowflakes and tinkle with icicles,
but its better for me and the tree, if its rain and sun instead.
When birds sing, and leaves bud, and bears crawl out of their beds,
but alas its not even yet time for Mr Groundhog to show his head
That's just fine because winter is beautiful, not ready for the spring quite yet.
So armed with my warm cocoa cup I embrace the cold.
I don my winter coat, mittens and scarf to brave the day.
Trudge through the snow and while away,
Up on the hill oblivious of cold the children sled and play
and build snowmen and make angels all the long day.

The session concluded with a haiku by Trelaina. It is based on the Picture book, "Snowmen at Night".

Snowmen at nightfall
Hide and seek with each other
snowball fight and sled

When first light appears
they all scatter back to home
sit disheveled there.

Join the muses next week for Poetry. The topic will be trees and they will be traveling to Meditation Park to look at the lovely trees as the poems and haikus are being recited.
