Rain, Rain Go Away...

May 4, 2010

Poetry corner was a lovely blend of old and new poetry today. Some of it being very old as Lionel Hutz recited a couplet from the 1385 by Chaucer. A lively discussion ensued as we contemplated the beauty and raw edges of lightening and thunder. It was decided that at some point in their lives, most people have experienced fear in connection with rain storms.

April Showers
by Glory

New life sprouting,
'neath my tree,
Oh, how I do wonder,
what can it be?

A Marigold or pansy?,
longing to be?
A sun flower,
a robin dropped seed?

Products of sunshine,
they soon shall arise...
Watered by showers....
April doth provide.

Don't think
by Lionel Hutz

Don't think rivers
Don't think fountains.
Don't think mountains or streams or creeks
Don't think pools or oceans
Don't think lakes, and don't think leaks
Don't think wells or water
Don't think springs.
Don't think moist or damp or rainy
Don't think hurricanes or things.
That drizzle, drip, drop flood or flow
When there's no bathroom ---- and you gotta go.

April Showers
by Linsue (from the archives)

April showers bring new life
Nurturing the earth.
Signaling spring is on the way
The season of rebirth.
Lambs and birds are all about
There's blossoms on the tree
Every thing looks new and clean
Best season of all for me.

when it rains I like to eat
enough to fill right down to my feet

I have to wash my car
or I can't go very far

if there is too much rain poor panda goes down the drain

Spring Rains in the Jungle
By The group (2008)

Spring rain on my window pain,
renews the jungle plants again.
In the jungle the mighty jungle the rain beats lightly down
In the jungle the mighty jungle the thunder is heard all around.
The jungle rain is soft and serene,
Making all it falls on nice and green.
I remembered a darkened bamboo arch where we stood while the storm swept by
thunder gripping the earth and lightening scrawled on the sky.
March wind is a jolly fellow he likes to joke and play,
He turns the umbrella plants inside out and blows men's hats away.
Streams and grass, ferns, wet earth and morning glories...
compounded are the fragrance of the jungle in spring.
