Memories of Mother

May 16, 2006

Sisters Thalia and Erato joined us at Poetry Corner this week to share memories and poems about Mother and mothers. There was a nice group attending, among them was Lindy Lou, Peachykeen, LadyFire, SuperFreak, Jitterbug, Dipper, Set, DustyBrat of Narnia, Lady DustyRose of Narnia, widdlewabbit, and Timo.

Widdlewabbit was the first to share a poem she had written for her aunt...

Prodigal Son
by widdlewabbit

The prospector said "Go west young man"
And so you did.
To seek your fortune amoungst
the affluent with their credit cards
that arrive each November
in a whirl of snow and ski boots
and shouts of raucous laughter.

Returning each spring,
we celebrate your home coming
while you wear the sweater
too hot in the warm sun,
a gift from an old auntie.
You want her to see that
you liked her Christmas gift.
Looking around, you take in
familiar sights and faces
your ears filled with
the sounds of home.
Your father clasps your shoulder
welcome home
while your mothers eyes
shine like December lights
filled with pride and quite joy
of seeing her wandering fledgling
home safe in her nest.

Of course, dear sister Thalia brought one of her famous (or is that infamous) lymricks....

Dear Momma, so you'll know that it's me
I'll recall your ubiquious plea:
Whenever they fought,
Your daughters were taught,
Little birds in their nest will agree.

Ode to my Mother
by Muse Urania

She held my hand
when I was small,
and again
when I was twenty.

She dried my tears
when I did fall
was caretaker
and sentry.

In later years,
her wisdom
guided my way,
vanquished my fears
and structured
my play.

Although
she was not perfect,
Who can say
that they are?
Her love for me
was flawless,
true as a shinning star.

Our Mother
by Muse Erato

She proudly wears her robes of blue
And has nine lovely daughters
She loves through and through
They bring her fits and giggles day after day
From pranks pulled by Thalia
To keeping beckoning Mages away!

Untitled
by Timo

A Mother's love, a Mother's care,
A Mother's sigh, a Mother's prayer
A Mother's work, and a Mother's day
Leaves little time for play.

Untitled
by DustyBrat of Narnia
Roses are red and violets are blue
A mother's love is always true!

A poetic thought by Ladyfire...

The Earth is my Mother, the Sky is my Father, and I'm a child of
Universal
love...

Dolphy did a lovely recitation of a poem found on the internet.

Untitled
by Set

Oh mother, dearest mother
Sit down, do please come hither
Though thou art lithe as a feather
All this housework... why bother?
the end

How the concept contributes to mirth:
This idea that our mother's the earth!
Is your Momma fat and round,
Several septillion pounds,
With a 25,000-mile girth?

Group Poem

by all

Mother is a perfect woman
giving life in her womb
Nuturing her young as they grow
And encouraging her daughters to bloom!
She is always strong, always near
she is worthy of respect
and never will be negligent
And never will we forget
the things she hasn't even done for us yet
and lays us down at the end of the day.

Our topic for next week shall be cookies. Please create yummy poetry and join us this coming Tuesday at Theatre View, 11pm wat.
