Crazy Days of Summer

May 31, 2005

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

On Tuesday, the Poetry Corner guests brought their enthusiasm, quills, barbeques (and even hotdogs) to celebrate the imminent arrival of Summer with Muses Urania and Calliope.

Several of our guests treated us to the poems they composed for the occasion, as follows:

Untitled
by Le@p Frog

if one wish were given me
i would like to stay a red froggy
the end

Roses are Red
by DustyBrat

Roses are red violets are blue
Pools open and schools out too!!!!!

A Haiku
by TigerEyes

Up high in the sky
Where the clouds roll on by
A butterfly soars

Summer's Coming!
by Glory

Get out the hot dogs,
dust off the Bar-bie,
for summer is coming ,
Horay!

The rake and hoe reighn,
as flowers pop.
Well done!
from seeds you drop,
for summer is coming again.

Gear up for blue skies,
and azure sunsets,
cool breezes, and
plenty of shade.
Horse shoes, and coquette,
while shipping lemonade.

At the beach, we'll sun
while children run
through surf and castles build.
Frisbies spin, and
birds flock in,
our summer dreams fulfilled.

Summer
by Kahlua

Shooting stars shining, sparkling sky, sheer silk,
Sweet songbirds, soulful sounds,
Sensous, seductive season,
Summer.

Summer Haiku (in 2 verses)
by DustyRose of Narnia

Ahhhhh summer is near,
Floats of icecream n' rootbeer
Fireworks come cheer!
No school!

Vacation!
Hotdogs and watermelon
Time for havin' fun.

Summer
by LAD, Pita of Narnia

The Grass is green and the trees are budding.
Alas what could be coming?
The sky is crying and the flowers are spreading.
Alas what could be coming?
The sky is clear and the children's voices carry.
Alas what could be coming?
When parks are open and Kites fly in the breeze,
its easy to see that its SUMMER! Summer is Coming!

We were also entertained by recitations of summer-themed works by William Blake (To Summer), Robert Louis Stevenson (Bed in Summer) and Adrian Road-Heddick (The Song of Invisible Birds).

We concluded the hour in Poetry Corner tradition by composing our very group poem, with this as the delightful result:

Ode to Summer
by Violet, Kahlua, Andi, Le@p Frog, Muse Urania, DustyBrat, Muse Calliope, DustyRose of Narnia, LAD, Pita of Narnia, Luvheart & TigerFeet

Sunshine, dancing on the waters...
shiny hair on my two daughters
Silver droplets, dark blue spatters,
we are here together that's all that matters
Watching waves recede on sand
I hold a blossom in my hand
enjoying where waves of summer meet the land
Running about with my kite in hand
and summer breezes cool the evening strand
while lookin at the hot dogs over on that stand
in my head i hear it humming....
the sounds of summer in the trees strumming
