Long
before the Easter Bunny was the Easter Bunny, he was a quiet
bunny named Maurice. He loved to sit in the grass all day and
watch the clouds move across the sky.
One
day as he was minding his own business he heard the rustle of
leaves high on a pine tree. As he looked up, he saw a fleeting
movement. Something transparent fluttering in the distant branches.
"Could
it be?," asked Maurice. It was God, coming to ask Maurice
to be his helper for Easter. "Maurice," said God,
" Could you lend me your time and deliver the spirit of
Easter for me?"
That
is why you see him always wearing that basket on his back with
many little gifts to give out with many good thoughts.
Every
Easter, if one is lucky you can see him scooting around quickly
dropping eggs all over the world, bringing joy to young and
old.
Whenever
the bunny runs out of eggs, he just sits at the foot of the
pine tree, and the iridescent bird sent by God will provide
him with a full assortment of chocolate eggs in all colors.
He was
delivering eggs everyday to everyone until he realized that
people were getting used to it. The spirit of Easter was becoming
a commonplace occurrence. How would he make the people
understand that this was special?
Maurice
decided he would inscribe spiritual messages on each of the
eggs before he handed them out.
"Would
the people really read these inscriptions?," wondered Maurice.
"Well, it's worth a shot." Maurice began inscribing
the eggs with messages, reminding people that Easter was much
more than eggs and the Easter Bunny. It represented the resurrection
of Jesus Christ.
Then
he limited the egg delivery to only one day a year so that people
would stop and ponder over the true meaning of Easter.
