Muses Terpsichore and Euterpe had two lovely Muse-wannabees attend their game on Wednesday. Terpsichore was so delighted by this she decided we should create a story about a rogue Muse. Here is how The Tale of the Rogue Muse begins: Long ago, in a forgotten garden, was hidden a trunk with a special treasure within. Deep under ground, overgrown with weeds was a chest and inside was a magical robe, worn only by the wisest and most beautiful Muses of Kymer. The robe was the purest of white and dazzled the eyes so none could look upon it. The robe had lain in the chest for so long, none had been special enough to wear it. So long that many had forgotten it was there. One day a child wandered alone in the garden, a child so pure, her laughter could melt one's heart. She plopped down in the dirt and began to dig, making mud pies as it lightly began to rain. Soon the rain began to come down harder and the child ran for the shelter of a tree. It rained for hours, washing way mountains of mud 'till something peeked out. At first she did not see it and began her walk home when the rain stopped. With almost her first step she felt something beneath her foot and looked down. It seemed to be the corner of a golden chest. Since she was already a bit muddy she decided to dig around a bit. Peeking inside she gasped in amazement as she saw a glowing robe inside, one that looked very warm and clean. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, soft rainbow colors flowed from its trimmings, it seemed alive and inviting. She dared not touch it. It was a soft as rose petals and as white and fluffy as a cloud. She pulled it out and wrapped herself in the folds of the material. It fell in a puddle around her feet and as soon as it spread around, the ground bloomed in greenery and flowers all around. She was amazed at the power this robe had over nature and began running around to test it out. She went over to a sapling tree and gave it a big hug, immediately the tree grew straight and strong. Everywhere she ran giggles escaped her as flowers bloomed, birds chirped and butterflies came to life. The garden seemed a magical place full of new life. After awhile she lay down in the fresh grass and looked up at all the blooming trees and flowers and felt content. She fell asleep under a tree and slept soundly. So soundly that she never heard the dog that padded up to her to check out the the new garden. The dog gave her a sniff and then a lick. Suddenly it was clean and well fed as never before. The dog decided she would protect this girl forever. Not far away the little girl heard some beautiful flute music and she went to see who was playing. She found an interesting man-type creature with a flute. He played and played as she swirled around and danced in a whirlwind of flowers. The Pan did his own little jig and laughter filled the trees. The Pan was intrigued by the beautiful robes and asked the little girl if he might try them on. She, being innocent and kind, happily agreed. He enjoyed them so much and they fit him much better, he asked to trade her his lovely pipe for her robes. She quickly agreed if he would teach her how to play. ..........to be continued....... The hour ended much too quickly and the story was not finished. Please join the Muses next Wednesday to finish the Tale of the Rogue Muse. |
