Haunting Poetry

October 21, 2003

Last Tuesday there was excitement in the air as Muse Euterpe and Prophetess Mnemosyne hosted Poetry Corner on the front porch of the Victorian Mansion. A crowd quickly filled the porch as anxious poets waited to recite. Before the recitations ended Muse Euterpe announced that she had a surprise for all the wonderful poets who came to visit. She gave them each an item she had found while wandering through the mansion and asked them to prepare a poem about that item for next week. It will be quite delightful to see what they come up with. As you can see by the following poems, all of our poets in Kymer are quite talented.

Deja Who

Alone with Oracle T
I had a moment of reason
throw all my possessions to be?
and realize pixel treason?

The clone elevator was calling
it's voice a terrible wail
I knew that it was just stalling
LEAVE all your possessions and bail!

It was promising sweet paradise
leaving all this nonsense behind
Really a roll of the dice?
erasing all the art from my mind.

All of the sudden I saw
in flash there came realization
it's not what you hold in your paw
but an entire avatar nation!

HALLOWEEN IS HERE!
By Marianne G

When the ghost come a calling,
And spiders on your front porch are crawling,
When Witches take to the air,
And Vampire Bats leave their lair,

When Mummies and their curses,
Walk with Skeleton's carrying purses,
And giant Jack O' Lanterns prance,
Hand in hand with a headless Queen of France,

When Angels walk with devils,
And fiends from Hell's every level,
When Cats on two paws walk,
And with Dracula and Wolfman they do talk,

Then Halloween is here!
Everyone GIVE A CHEER!!

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!

I have to say I love Halloween,
The holiday is so totally keen,
You can go door to door for candy galore,
And all your old favorites can be found in the stores.

Dressing up in a costume to boot,
Picking one out is always a hoot,
To be a Scarecrow, or Skeleton, or Vampire do I dare?
Or dress as a Witch and design her a lair?

Time to dress up the house all spooky and such,
Is my graveyard and fog in the front yard too much?
I just have to say it's my favorite time of year,
I Love <jump> Love <jump> LOVE <jump> Halloween, Lets be perfectly clear!

Nite Star (Allen)

darkness smiles across the land as the time of ghouls is close at hand
witch
goblins
ghost and ghouls gather for the time of haunting fools.
scream and holler as you might the chill of the daemons shall take you in fright.
vampires
vamps
zombies and more come out in their gruesome hordes.
skeleton
spiders
snakes of all are here to slither
clank and crawl..
costumes
candy
pumpkins galore all to appease the evil horde
children laugh
giggle and scream for soon it shall be
Halloween

The Night is silent
all is still....
with the wind slightly whining
and rattleling the windowsill.....
Did I hear a Ghostly Tap?
or was it a litle twig that snapped........
Now I hear footsteps..!! squeaking and creeping...
or is it my imagination leaping.....
ohhh... wished the fireplace was still warm,
so I don't have to wait till the morn'
I am cold..wished to be hold...!
Outside is the Goblins night,
and everyone is full of fright....
In the corners, Behind the bush,
shadows are fleeting with a woosh....
Witches, Monsters, Clowns with delight,
all scurrying around in the pumpkins light.
Pumpkin, pumpkin with the many faces..
May we see you many places ?
To guide the way to a Trick or a Treat,
but most of all maybe something sweet,
so the Goblins and Ghosts
say ' Thank You' to the welcome host
and disappear back into the night ...
and only the moon will still shine bright....

The session ended with poets and listeners alike receiving the lovely Bones necklace. A beautiful accessory for any outfit.

Plan to come to Poetry Corner next Tuesday at 10:00 am on The Front Porch at the Mansion and hear what our poets come up with next. As always, coming just to listen is fine too.
