Homework Done Well!

October 28, 2003

Prophetess Mnemosyne was joined by Muse Melpomene to host Poetry Corner on the front porch of the Victorian Mansion.  When they arrived they heard quiet moans and groans and sighs of relief.  Was there something haunting the porch?  No, it was only the guests who came having finished their homework assigned to them by Muse Euterpe last week.  The guests brought back their items and began to recite their poems.  Some found favorite poems by well known poets to recite, while others wrote their own.

~The Witches Brew~

Dead leaves, seaweed, rotten eggs, too.
Stir them in my witches brew.

I've got magic - Alakazomakazoo!
Ooooo My witches brew Ooooo

What's it going to do to you?
Boo!

Spider webs, moldy bread, mucky mud, too.
Floor wax, thumb tacks, purple paint, too.
Finger nails, lunch pails, apple cores, too.
Wrinkled prunes, mushrooms, motor oil, too.

Margo
Bloody Bat Brew

A Bloody Bat Brew
to start my day anew
refreshing and hot as a stew
Buts lets try to remember
This Holiday ends by November
Happy October 31st, to you.

Fake Fangs

I have a pair of fangs
so tiny and so white,
to say that they are fake
just doesn't seem so right.

I wear them all around
to see who I can bite,
No one seems to care
cause I'm such a cute sight!!

Miss Daisy
My Trap (Spun Candy Web)

You might think this is just candy
but I have news for you,
it's just my little snare
to make a meal out of you!

Trelaina
Vlad's Pet

Vlad's Pet is a pain
who's always looking to drain
some blood from my veins.

Ruby
The Scarecrow (Harvest Scarecrow)

The farmer made a scarecrow
And stuffed it full of straw.
He put it in the cornfield
but the crows laughed
Haw-caw-caw.

One crow sat upon Scarecrow's hat.
He was not scared at all.
That scarecrow did not scare
A single crow away all fall!

DustyBrat

Halloween fright night
Stalking goblins, ghouls & ghosts
Screeching witches flight.

Marianne G
Pumpkin Candy Holder

You're Orange and Bright,
But Waaaaayyyy to light <wave>
The Muses gave you to me,
A Poem to write,

A pumpkin candy holder,
I have ten others in a folder,
When I turn on your light,
I've never seen anything so bright!

So a poem for you I write,
But still there is something SO NOT RIGHT!
I have to ask before I have a fit,
WHY WAS THERE NO CANDY IN IT????

NOT MY SKULL! (Skull)

I hold a Skull in my hand, ,
This was never part of my plan,
That an unknown Skull I should hold,
One with no life, so very cold.

It's not that I have no skull friends,
In fact, I have two to which I tend,
Desdemona and Hamlet are their names,
But holding this skull is just not the same <shrug>

So hold it I shall for now,
While a Poem I write and recite somehow,
But then to the Muses I'll hand the skull back,
For an unknown skull, empathy I lack.

Fare thee well skull of the unknown,
From the Muses I got you, only on loan,
The poem for you is now at an end,
And our parting will be as acquaintance, not friend

Wasser B. Maus
Rake Poem (Rake)

Its Autumn time again! Gardens going to sleep,
Apples and Pumpkins and Fall Leaves gathering so deep,
Moms baking cookies, puddings and white cakes,
Kids commandeered, forced to take up their rakes,
Pyramids of red, yellow and golden brown - building to the sky,
They rush and play and work so sweet, Red Mars quickly nighs,
Skeletons starting to rattle, sending Bats flying fast about,
Cauldron vapors rising to ice as children run, jump and shout,
Cat's backs arching at Witches gliding, goblins pinching, even biting,
Darkness falling with Full Moon rising, Owl screeches, Banshees fighting,
The Myth for real acquiring form, a Demon from Hell to the surface borne,
No Trick no Treat, this isn't a Tale, Souls only meat to be from the body torn,

to be continued.......

At the end of the session each participant and listener received the last of the  special October necklaces.

Plan to come to Poetry Corner next Tuesday at 10:00 am on The Front Porch at the Mansion and hear what our poets come up with next. As always, coming just to listen is fine too.
