Food for Thought?

December 9, 2003

It was a lovely, but chilly, morning in the Ice Castle as Muse Euterpe and Muse Erato gathered the local poets in the Snowy Hills room.  There were many favorite poems read about this holiday season as more and more people found their way into the castle.  MysticOnyx Mage wandered in appropriately dressed in his winter snuggly cap.  He had come to bring a Birthday Balloon to Wasser B. Maus who turned 3 that day.  Happy Birthday, Maus!!

Soon the poets who were finishing up their works on this weeks topic, were ready to recite.  It was amazing to see what people could find in their refrigerators.  Even the Muses decided to write a little something about what they found in the icebox.

Food

I looked into my ice box
And what did I see?
A loaf of bread, a jug of milk
And muffins to have with my tea!

There are eggs galore
Fresh fruits and vegetables too
There's red lean beef
With which to make a stew!

Oh the spices and sugars
Whole wheat flour as well
With which to make cookies and cakes
That is so enticing to our sense of smell!

As I looked into my ice box
And saw the abundance of food
I gave thanks to Our Lord
For providing us with all that is good!

The Refrigerator

I opened the door
and almost fell to the floor
as the Light shined upon Heaven's galore!

Unfinished Poem

The Fridge is a great place for Food,
You can open it when you're in the mood,
Some fresh fruit in there you can pick,
Or the leftover chicken soup from when you were sick.

Untitled

I Looked in My fridge
and To my surprise
was leftover Cheeseburger
and Some Dancing French Fries
I closed the door quick
for Fear I was dreaming
But Opened again
and saw Cheeseburger Steaming
I Closed the Door,,,,
and started to Thinking
Maybe today
I should Lay off My Drinking

Muse Icebox

Calliope and Clio are very often seen
Coming from the Ice Castle
An ice block in between.

Urania and Poli prepare, if you please
The box the ice slides into
with the greatest ease.

Terpsichore and Melpy have often to us told
There must be a better way
To keep the ice cream cold.

Euterpe and Erato have tried to learn to bake
And need to find a way to chill
The fresh Lemon Cheese Cake.

Mnemosyne thinks this icebox was not so keen
Since finding Thalia's hidden lager
In shades of Leprechaun green.

The Empty Fridge

I guess you should call it....
The Kringle Ice Box is bare,
And it really isn't fair,
On Vacation they have gone,
Leaving us to carry on.
Elf Messup really did mess up
And now our tummies are empty,
Except for Jester Sox Soop,
Which makes my tummy do loop de loops!

My Fridge

I looked in my fridge and What did I see?
Plastic Clad food looking back at me!
There sat my salad, under plastic cover,
Cozying up to the carrots, her plastic bag lover!

Stay Away From The Carrots!

From the fruit drawer there arose such a sound,
That I pulled it open quickly and my what I found!
The grapes were all dancing in one great big bunch,
And the DY was the apple I couldn't find for lunch!

I know that Apple's in here somewhere!

The eggs in their Styrofoam all giggled at the scene,
Of the leftover baked potato dancing with the coffee beans,
And the numerous bottles of water put on quite a show,
As they limboed under a celery stick set very low.

How LOW can you go???

The freezer was not any better, much to my dismay,
As the frozen meat watched the TV dinners put on a play,
And the frozen Ice cubes had escaped their tray cage,
They had used all of their numbers to create the stage!

Quiet on the Set! I'm ready for my close-up!

The situation was out of my hands that was for sure,
So I did the only thing I could, I just closed the door.
I went out and bought my dinner at a local hot spot,
And when they asked if I wanted a doggy bag, I said I'd rather not!

NO DOGGY BAG!
NO LEFTOVERS!

There's Nothing To Eat!

Mom's just been shopping,
Although you wouldn't know it

For when I open the refrigerator door
It surely doesn't show it.

Fruit there are apples and grapes,
But I wanted an orange, that would taste great<jump>

Baloney is there, but not any ham,
All mom can offer is a can of spam????

There's nothing to eat!
Of this I am sure,

The fridge may be full,
But we need to go visit the Store!

As there was no topic given for next week, Muses Euterpe and Erato look forward to hearing their guests favorite holiday poems.  Please join them for Poetry Corner next week at 10 am in the Snowy Hills (Ice Castle).
